Benedikt Lang was born in Luby (now part of Czechia) in 1893 into a family with a long tradition of violin making.  The son of Ferdinand, he worked in Mittenwald until his death in 1975.

This lovely 5 string bass is labelled Benedikt Lang with the date 1991, so it would have been completed by a successor in his workshop after his death.

Structurally this bass is in excellent condition with no cracks or signs of previous repair.  Comfortable to play with a big sound suited to both classical and jazz, it is the perfect instrument for a player seeking an afordable five stringer.
