4/4 French Violin by René Jacquemin, 1920
Mirecourt-born luthier René Jacquemin was one of many 20th century luthiers to train in Paris with Léon Victor Mougenot whilst being carefully supervised by Albert Caressa. Many years later, Jacquemin returned to his native Mirecourt to establish his own atelier where he made many instruments modelled on the Cremonese masters including Stradivari and Guarneri and French masters Lupot and Vuillaume. In 1926, Jacquemin was awarded the Gold Medal in a French violin making competition.
This violin has a 2-piece back and is in good, restored condition. The sound is pleasing and well-balanced across the instrument. It has a warm and full-bodied tone that is typical to French violins from this era.
