4/4 French Violin by Benoit Fleury Unlabelled c1750

A Luithier who was just thirteen when he began perfecting his craftsmanship, Benoit (Benoist) Fleury began an apprenticeship with C. Boivin in Paris, later working under the guidance of Louis Guersan. In c1745 he Moved to Faubourg St. Germain where he carried out some fine work in his own workshop. Alongside the making of great violins, violas and cellos; it is known that he made four double basses for the King of France.

This stunning instrument is a fine example of his work. A gorgeous two piece back with an over all darkish-brown varnish. A wonderfully-surprising bright sound makes this a powerful, but still warm and full sounding violin.
