4/4 Italian Violin labelled Romeo Antoniazzi, c1930

This is a gorgeous violin with a very interesting two piece back, slab sawn poplar and of medium to wide grain. The sides are of the same wood as the back, quarter sawn, whilst the front is of narrow to medium grain. The youngest rings have crossmatched with wood dating back to AD1695, though with spruce the sapwood and heartwood boundaries are difficult to identify, rendering it difficult to date the felling date of the tree. The violin has fairly low arched back and front plates. The sound is mellow but strong, and the violin is a real delight to play!
